Lockyer Valley
A regular vet in the Valley
The Lockyer Valley is full of horses — breeding properties and agistment around Gatton, campdraft and western horses through Laidley and Mulgowie, pony club and eventing families on acreage at Plainland, Hatton Vale and Regency Downs — and it has long been short of equine vets who come to the property rather than expecting the horse to travel.
Christian's two set days each week in the Valley mean routine work can be booked predictably: vaccinations and dentals grouped on a property or across neighbouring properties, soundness checks before a campaign, and follow-ups on horses under treatment. Sick horses on Valley days are fitted in first.
The Valley's creek flats and irrigated country mean lush feed and a real laminitis risk in good seasons, sandy soils in parts that make sand colic worth guarding against, and plenty of flying-fox habitat along the creeks and in the fruit-growing country. Hendra vaccination is strongly recommended for every horse here.

Questions
Frequently asked
Which days are you in the Lockyer Valley?
Christian is in the Valley two days each week. The days can shift with demand, so call to find out the next Valley run and have your horses booked onto it.
What if my horse is sick on a non-Valley day?
Call. Urgent cases are triaged on the day and Christian will tell you honestly whether he can get there or whether you should contact an equine hospital. Don't wait for the next scheduled day with a sick horse.
Do you cover Lowood, Fernvale and the Brisbane Valley?
Those are a little outside the regular run but close to it. Call — grouping a couple of properties often makes it work.
Can you do all the horses at our agistment centre?
Yes. A vaccination or dental day for a whole property keeps the cost per horse down and is the easiest way to keep everyone's records current.
Need a horse vet in the Lockyer Valley?
Call with your address and what's going on, and Christian will tell you when he can be there.
